Job Description

Our client is looking for a Maintenance Worker with a general maintenance and construction background to perform routine and non-routine maintenance on city assets, including, streets and storm drainage systems, rights of way, buildings and facilities, medians, grounds, parks and trails.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Concrete and Asphalt Work – form setup, grade preparation, material placement and finishing.

  • Electrical Work – replacing fixtures, trenching, repairing and installing new conduit and wiring, installing and adjusting electrical time clocks, replacing electrical components.

  • Clean-up and Custodial Work – various types of debris clean-up from wind and storm events, public events, paint and liquid spills, construction work, general custodial work.

  • Painting – general maintenance painting, caulking, masking, clean-up.

  • Landscape Maintenance – tree pruning, planting, weed abatement, water system repairs.

  • Answers emergency calls from the public and other agencies taking appropriate action such as placing barricades, removing fallen trees and limbs, replacing street signs and emergency patching of streets, water and sewer lines.

  • Light Equipment and Tool Operations – use of paint sprayers, power washers, compacting machines, various saws, drills, vacuums, leaf blowers and other power and handheld tools. Performs routine equipment safety inspections.

  • Heavy Equipment Operations. Operates dump trucks, water trucks, bucket truck, tractors, and other maintenance equipment; performs routine maintenance on equipment.

  • Performs preventative maintenance and makes repairs on buildings and facilities requiring some skill in general construction, such as: concrete, carpentry, roofing, drywall, painting, plumbing, and routine electrical maintenance.

  • Plants and transplants flowers, bulbs, shrubs, and trees; prunes and sprays shrubs and trees; waters and fertilizes turf; mows and edges lawns, installs and repairs irrigation systems.

  • Performs other duties of similar nature and level as assigned to address organizational needs and changing organizational practices.

Facilities Division:

  • Performs building inspections, upgrades, repairs, and preventative maintenance.

  • Performs HVAC inspections, upgrades, maintenance, and monitors and programs HVAC settings.

  • Maintains park grounds including athletic courts, restroom facilities, and all grounds work.

  • Maintains, monitors, installs and programs various building technology systems (security system, fire alarms, ID Badge system, etc.).

Streets Division:

  • Surveys streets and facilities and picks up litter, removes roadway debris and weeds; reports violations of the codes relating to solid waste and litter; maintains records and reports on litter.

  • Maintenance of roads and concrete surfaces. Sets forms, pours, and finishes concrete and rakes asphalt in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, curbs, gutters, driveways, alleys, and sidewalks.

  • Monitors, inspects, and installs various types of street signs and markings.

  • Sets up traffic control, assists with vehicle collisions and traffic issues and other work within the streets and rights of way.

  • Light Equipment Operations. Operates vehicles such as pickups to transport light rollers to perform specialized maintenance functions; traffic striping and sign painting; operates light roller to compact asphalt patching.

QUALIFICATIONS/GUIDELINES

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of common tools and equipment used in construction and maintenance work.

  • Safety precautions and procedures.

  • Ability to perform strenuous tasks, often for extended periods and in adverse climate conditions.

  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Communicate clearly and concisely in writing and orally.

  • Knowledge of basic computer skills, email operations and software applications such as Word and Excel.

  • Work safely and efficiently.

  • Deal tactfully with the public.

Education and/or Experience:

Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance. Graduation from high school or equivalent, and experience performing duties associated with construction and maintenance tasks.

Licensing/Certifications:

Possession of an appropriate California driver's license and possession of/or ability to obtain an appropriate Class "B" with air brake and tanker endorsements within twelve months of hire and a satisfactory driving record.

Additional Information:

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, and squatting, stooping, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment.

Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

In addition, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot, and cold with extreme sun exposure.

 

Full-time

Pay = $23/hr
